Delivery Accomplished

A few weeks back I told you about a family who suffered a tragic loss. A young mother was lost during the birth of her premature baby girl and a friend asked if I knew any knitters who would like to make something for them. Well, my knitters are a great bunch of people who rise to any occasion so between my Chicks and my other group, The Delaware Avenue Stitch Angels of the Albany Public Library, we went to work and put together a lovely collection of wearables for now and the near future when this sweet wee babe grows.
We made dresses, hats, mittens, blankets, sweaters, and a sleep sack for the sweet baby.
And for her Daddy we made hats, a scarf, and a warm pair of gloves.
At the very last minute another hat was added to the collection.
So now this sweet baby will be cozy and warm.
Thank you to the following Chicks and Stitch Angels for dropping everything and stepping up to the plate to fulfill a need.

Keep those needles clicking!

I needed a quick knit to slip in between my WIP’s that are taking too long to finish. You know, something to make me feel productive. This neck warmer was a perfect fit. Made with the magic loop method, it took a week to complete only because I was working on other projects too.

I used about 200 yards of worsted weight yarn and a size 6 needle .

It’s a great stash busting pattern and very easy, something to keep your needles clicking!

For a preemie and her father

I got a call just around Christmas time that a friend of a friend was helping a new family whose mother died in childbirth and now there’s a new father with a preemie infant, both totally unprepared to face the coming months, was there something the Chicks could do to help out? Knowing the generosity of my Chicks, we all got to work to make some clothing to show the father and his new daughter that we are praying for them and hoping we can ease their burden a bit by making sure they have items to wear.
Carole started off with a sweet little hat of self-patterning yarn and…
A pair of matching baby mitts.
Janna showed us the picture of what the dress she’s making will look like.
And in the lower left corner you can see her progress on the lilac dress.
Carole made the 1898 hat for the father….
And Cinzia is making a dress for when she’s a little older.
Barbara B. made a sweet lace cardigan and fuzzy pink hat.
And Maureen made the Bankhead hat for the father and the Beloved bonnet for the baby.
Dorah made a warm, cozy blanket called Prairie Blanket.
And more from Barbara B.
I contributed a woven scarf for the father and another Beloved bonnet with a matching neck warmer for baby. We didn’t make preemie sizes because she probably won’t be going out much as soon as she’s released from NICU and by the time she needs warm clothing, she’ll fit into what we’ve made.
And you may have noticed that we’re back to “Zooming” again. With the cases of COVID spreading like wildfire, I thought it was wise to stay safely at home. We’ll be zooming about once a month until it’s safe to get together again. In the meantime, keep those needles clicking!

Taking a break

It pains me to say this but in light of the recent spike in COVID cases in our area and to keep everyone safe during the holidays, I’ve decided, that as Mother Hen to my Chicks, it’s my responsibility to put our weekly meetings on hiatus until a safer time to meet. We will have occasional Zoom meetings so we can keep up with our knitting and post pictures of our progress. But I can’t in good conscience risk exposing anyone to this insidious illness.

I will be posting free patterns to keep you busy so enjoy the first called Cowgirl Convertible. It’s a cowl! No! It’s a hat! Wait! It’s both! And the pattern lists the details for either crochet or knit in different weights of yarn.

Enjoy the holidays and check back now and then to see what’s happening on this page. May we all have a blessed Christmas and may 2022 bring good health to the whole world.

Filling the inventory

We have many FO's this week to show you. Jan A. brought a whole pile of lovely hats and scarves of all colors. She's been very busy!
Jan P. finished her 1898 hat from last week's post.
And Maureen finished her pretty self striping scarf.
We have a Declan hat to add to inventory. Love those cables!
And Cinzia made an ensemble from a very soft acrylic.
This is the Workday Scarf from Cinzia's needles. It has an easy lace stitch edging.
Maureen started the Bankhead hat and is enjoying the knit. It's a good one for when you want to talk and knit at the same time.
Jan A. started another hat too.
The blue yarn goes nicely with denim.
Margaret worked on her snowflake hat and by the time we ended our meeting she had finished the crown and proceeded to the I-cord ties.
Cinzia had just started a dress for a little girl, using a sparkly yarn. This will make someone feel like a princess.
Jan P. is also making the Bankhead hat, like Maureen's, but she is not quite as far into the pattern yet.
I started another balaclava but with more stitches so it won't be as tight as the one I made last week.
I made this one exactly as the pattern says but it would fit a child better than an adult.
That's all for now. We'll be taking a break for the Christmas holidays but will be back in the new year. Sending wishes for peace and good health to all
and keep those needles clicking!
