Drum Roll Please! And Interview with a Knitter, Part 4

As you can see Barb is back! We missed her so much! (I don't think Chicks should be allowed vacations. LOL!) And it was her scarf which made the count come in at 95 items. Only one more to go and we still have the evening group of knitters to count.
Kathleen (left) and Karin (right) were catching up on the Guernsey sweater pattern that Kathleen was working at the time.
She finished the front and back and is ready to go at the sleeves. The yarn is really purple as in the previous photo, not blue the way it shows up here. This sweater is quickly becoming a group favorite as it is a fast knit and interesting enough to keep you from getting bored without draining your energy.
Kathleen also made another windowpane and stripes hoodie using the same purple yarn to which she added the creamy white stripes and checks.
We're still doing show and tell and it looks as though Sheila is picking up a few pointers.
By evening time Joyce and Judy pushed us to the edge and over it bringing in the 96th and 97th items to make our five year grand total of....DRUM ROLL PLEASE....1,001 items! Our knitter's interview is with Elaine this week. Elaine has been with the Chicks since the beginning and is another welcome member of our afternoon group.
Interviewer: Elaine, at what age did you learn to knit?
Elaine: I don't remember the exact age, but I was a child.
Interviewer: Who taught you to knit?
Elaine: My mother, who knit only slipper socks, taught me.
Interviewer: What was the first item you completed and for whom did you make it?
Elaine: After a long hiatus, I began knitting again when my children were little. While on vacation with a friend, I had serious car trouble and had to wait a few days for the repair. So I looked around for something to do while I waited and found a yarn store. I bought all the supplies I would need to make a sweater for myself and I still have that sweater.
Interviewer: What was your favorite item knitted?
Elaine: My favorite items to knit are afghans for my children. It makes me feel like I'm knitting them a legacy.
Interviewer: What was your most challenging project?
Elaine: I think the most challenging projects are those I have not yet finished, such as the one piece infant long-legged onesie.
Interviewer: What took you the longest to knit?
Elaine: Those afghans I mentioned earlier took me almost a year to make.
Interviewer: What do you like to knit now?
Elaine: I love to knit sweaters for my sweet little granddaughter.
Interviewer: What is your favorite fiber to knit?
Elaine: I like working with good acrylic and wool blends or washable wools because they make easy care garments for my granddaughter.
Interviewer: Where is your favorite place to knit?
Elaine: I like to knit at Jody's house because of the companionship and tranquility.
Interviewer: Where is the most unusual place you ever knitted?
Elaine: I guess it's not so unusual anymore, but I like to knit when I have to wait for something, like in waiting rooms or when I have to sit in the car to wait for someone.
Thank you Elaine for letting us delve into your knitting world. And thank you to all the Chicks who have made reaching our goal of 1,000 items in five years such a pleasure and a joy!
God bless you!
