Better late than never

Ooops! I am a day late posting this week. I think the oppressive heat is affecting my brain. 

Anyway, the Chicks were productive this week.

Janna’s Totally Biased cowl is a perfect pattern for this color changing yarn.

I’m working on the 1898 Hat with a heather green Cascade yarn. You can see one of the ear flaps already.

Dorah started a hat pattern which had cables but decided to make a plain hat instead. The border can be folded or just left long.

Barbara B. found this lovely yarn for a pittance at a garage sale last year and is making the adult Flax sweater for herself.

Carole found this free pattern on Ravelry which uses a DK weight yarn. It looks so luscious!

And Liz is making a baby hat which she found is not the same size as the pattern describes. Not to worry! It will fit someone!

Lovely weather for outdoor knitting

I love Tuesdays! I get to meet with my Chicks. The hot topic today was bears! Oh my! The knitters were disappointed that the day a juvenile bear decided to visit my yard about 30 feet from where we all sit, was not a day when we were out here knitting. I know bears visit the neighborhood around here at night because many neighbors have hard evidence what with broken fences, droppings, and crushed bird feeders. This particular day was a shocker because “Yogi” strolled by at 1:30 in the afternoon! Let’s hope he found a nice den somewhere way away from the population.

Janna’s Totally Biased cowl is coming along nicely. And check out how nice it looks against her shirt.

Debbie’s hat has a few more stripes added to it. She doesn’t have much leisure time for knitting since her grandchildren live nearby.

Jan’s Irma hat is slow going. She, much like me, has multiple projects going at once so they take a little longer to finish. But it’ll get done.

Cinzia’s Workday Scarf looks so pretty in this tonal color yarn. Tonal yarns are great for patterns where you want a bit of interest without it interfering with the lacework.

Im using the same stitch pattern from a shawl I made but using the basic pattern from emPower People cowl by Casapinka’s to make an asymmetrical triangular cowl.

Cinzia’s daughter Sofia visited today. She’s working on a nice, cozy scarf using a variation of the Mistake stitch.

Here is Barbara K.’s Mistake Stitch Scarf in a rich raspberry color. The thick fabric it creates makes a warm scarf.

Margaret’s Sightseer cowl is getting longer with every row. Since it’s a slipped stitch pattern technique, it takes a little longer to make progress but it’s looking great.

 Another week gone by which brings us closer to the end of summer. Hopefully we’ll be able to sit out here on the deck well into an Indian summer. Keep those needles clicking!

Outdoor knitting

It was a warm one today but the humidity didn't kick in until everyone had gone home.

Liz made a lot of progress on her cowl.

Carole worked on a beautiful royal blue hat.

It's called the Meshy Squishy Toque.

Jan worked on her Irma hat. She had to hurry home before the thunderstorms so she could comfort her poor pup who is terrified of storms. There was one predicted to hit right around the time she would get home.

Maureen took two identical skeins of Noro yarn but started one ball from the outside of the skein, and the other from the inside to make the Noro Striped Scarf, an oldy but goody.

Barbara B. worked on a shawl for herself called Anisah that has cables running all the way up the edge.

Janna made good progress on her Totally Biased cowl. The colors are changing in the most perfect way.

I'm working on a shawl for myself in between charity knitting. This is called the Cheri Chevron Shawl. I'm using a mohair and a sock yarn and I love how it looks.

Knitting brings us such joy and we all feel as though it helped us get through the toughest times in life. I hope you feel this way too. Keep those needles clicking and look for us next week.

No rain today

We’ve had so much rain around here lately that rivers and streams are flooding over the banks and washing out roads across the Hudson River from where we are. So while the heat and humidity are keeping us inside to knit, we are grateful for the sunshine.

We can always knit with the AC so first up is Maureen’s project, the Beloved bonnet. We talked about trying to wrap our brains around the beginning portion and how suddenly the light bulb goes on and it all makes sense.

She finished her Sightseer Cowl and it’s looking lovely in the black and pink yarns.

Debbie added some new color stripes to her hat and it’s looking great.

I’m still working on a shawl using a pattern my daughter designed. It makes a lovely texture for solid colored yarns.

It will be somewhat asymmetrical and will have to be blocked to see the lace edging.

Liz worked on a cowl with a creamy white yarn, a good neutral color that goes with everything.

Killer humidity today

We Chicks opted to knit indoors today because of the high humidity on the deck. We are between rain storms and I don't know about the others, but I'm beginning to go moldy! LOL!

Liz brought a sack filled with the items she knitted over the winter while she was away. There is a cute baby sweater and matching hat, two more baby hats, two Mistake Stitch scarves, a neck gaiter, and two cowls, one of which she added a pin in case the recipient would like to cinch it tighter.

Here is the Mistake Stitch hat she started last week which looks like it could be paired 

with the neck gaiter.

Barbara B. is as addicted to the Beloved bonnet as I am. She finished a toddler sized one and....

has already made progress on another. It's as I said last week, they are like Lay's Potato Chips, you can't make just one.

I'm hooked too! I think this is my fifth or sixth one so far. Once you figure out the pattern, which isn't at all difficult, you can make them any size you like. This one will fit a large child or small adult.

Carol continued to work on her Honey Cowl. Love that deep red color!

And Debbie moved on to the second color in her hat.

Maureen is getting tired of the Sightseer Cowl which must mean it's long enough and time to add the ribbing to finish it off. When I make scarves or cowls I know I'm almost done when I'm bored 

making it.

Margaret still has a bit to go before she can bind off her Sightseer Cowl. It's looking good!

Take a good look at Dorah's ZickZack scarf because she already frogged it due to an error she couldn't fix easily and will make a second go at it. This was one I started and just couldn't stand the torture of continuing it. But Dorah loved knitting this pattern and offered to take it off my hands. 

I hope she doesn't regret that decision!

PIE!

The Peach Truck came through town last week and Barbara B. picked up a 25 pound box! We Chicks were the lucky recipients of a Hummingbird Pie she made using the some of peaches, bananas, and pineapple with a crumble topping. Yummy doesn't begin to describe how good it was.

Dorah finished her ZickZack scarf and it is stunning! She would have cast on right away for another but she didn't have the size needles required for the weight yarn she wanted to use.

Barbara K. cast on for another scarf using a pretty rosy pink. She is wearing an adorable shrug she made with a worsted weight cotton yarn...perfect for summer days in the AC.

Maureen continues to work on her Sightseer Cowl.

This Mistake Stitch Hat is next up on Liz's needles.

She cast on stitches and got right to work.

Barbara B. is knitting beads into her cowl, her first try at bead work.

This is the pattern she's using and it looks beautiful already.

You know how you can't eat just one Lay's Potato Chip? Well, you can't knit just one Beloved Bonnet from TinCanKnits either! I am hooked! The last one to the right is still on the needles and I thought I was going to run out of yarn. But the knitting angels looked down and said, "You can do it!" and it looks like I'll have just enough to finish the I-cord tie!
